We Got The Money!
April 22, 2023
Vanessa received an important call from Councilman Jared Mead, informing her that the Washington State Capital Budget for 2023-25 had been approved. She was thrilled to learn that the budget included a significant allocation of $650,000 for the development of the Mays Pond Playground. Funding Meeting
March 25, 2023
We had a meeting with Councilman Jared Mead, Senator John Lovick, and Representative Brandy Donaghy at the playground. They informed us that our proposed $650,000 playground budget is now being considered as part of the 2023 Washington State budget, currently awaiting approval from the House of Representatives. After seeing the current condition of our existing playground, Representative Donaghy expressed confidence in our ability to secure the necessary funding and conveyed her eagerness to see the new playground completed. Meanwhile, Senator Lovick has offered to reach out to Snohomish County tribal casinos to see if they would be willing to donate picnic tables, benches, and trash cans to complete the new playground. We are thrilled with all this fantastic news and are eagerly awaiting the outcome of the Washington State budget decisions, which should be announced by late April or early May. |
The COVID HIT
May, 2020
COVID caused a global pandemic with millions of cases and deaths worldwide. It has affected economies, healthcare systems, and daily life for many people. Governments around the world have implemented measures such as lockdowns, social distancing, and mask mandates to slow the spread of the virus. Because of COVID, all progress working toward the new playground was put on hold until late 2022, when in-person meetings could resume. |
Clothing Drive
December 31, 2020
The Olympus 1 Homeowners Association has been raising funds to build a new Mays Pond Playground. Commercial playgrounds can cost $450,000 or more. After months of collecting bags of clothing for the Mays Pond Clothing Drive, the fundraiser came to an end in September, 2020. Thanks to Vanessa Miewald's hard work coordinating this event, O1HA collected more than 7,000 pounds of clothing that raised $1,800 towards the new playground. We would like to thank everyone who donated items or volunteered their time to make this event a success. |
History
The original wooden playground was built in 1990 and installed with the helping hands of the Mays Pond Homeowners. Since it's creation, the Mays Pond Playground has been free for everyone to use and open to the public. But now most of the original playground has been removed due to wear and tear and safety issues for the kids. It's time to build a new one!!!!
